480ish days of safety

480ish days of safety

When we first began this project we decided we would give ourselves a little motivation to stay safe on the job site (now we call it “home”). We’ve been referring to this as our “Safety Reward”. The kids initially wanted treats (donuts or ice cream), but eventually we all agreed on a long weekend to Wisconsin Dells. It’s less than 5 hours away which made it seem more accessible than other trips we could have taken. I was also a fan of the all-inclusive options they had there. I’m kinda tapped out on planning things as it’s my FT day job and my FT home job.

We also agreed that we would consider ourselves “successful” if no one had to visit the hospital up to the time we moved in. Well we moved the last weekend in July so it had been an additional 2.5 months of safety first but we were waiting for the kids fall break in October to venture up to the Dells.

I had been to the Dells once when I was really little and remembered only 2 or 3 things. I’m pretty sure this town (Wisconsin Dells is actually the name of the town, not a specific resort (which I did not know until starting our research)) has changed A LOT since the mid 80s. Jim had never been so in some ways we were discovering it together.

I won’t go into every tiny detail, but we all had a good time though not without a few issues. I would not say that it colored my experience enough to impact it negatively though. We had a spacious room, everything was clean, the waterpark was fun, the arcade was a blast, the food was fine and the memories were great. I would definitely go back again, hopefully during a time of year when we could appreciate the landscape and outdoor features of the area (it snowed one day while we were there).
