Double feature: House leveling up- October and November 2021
Super exciting two for one offer! I failed to get October OR November’s house progress posts done in a timely manner and now it’s almost mid-December… So lucky you. Not sure that’s it’s actually twice the amount of content but here goes- in no particular order.
- completed the very final items on the mantel install
- vacation with kayaking and hiking in Southern Illinois
- drywall patching from various projects in the last two years
- finished the last raw drywall half wall caps with a solid wood top
- built, painted, poly’d and installed the built in shelves on either side of the fireplace/mantel wall
- 3ish hours cleaning the basement with the kids after months of woodworking projects (a father’s day gift to J)
- installed smart plugs and LED lighting into the built in shelves
- Mr B’s first piano recital and Miss K’s first in two years (thanks Covid!)
- prep for guests for Thanksgiving and begin holiday decorating (the true final goal of the entire fireplace wall)
December is always a busy month but that doesn’t mean it’s a house project focused month. I think we’re starting a tradition to abandon projects during this month to focus on the fun and far-too-many things to cram into 3ish weeks. We have a decent list of things to do (mostly brain work we can’t do in evenings or after a weekend of manual labor) in the week between Xmas and New Years. But we have rough plans laid out for most of 2022 on what projects to do in what season. Roughly we’re looking at finishing trim, some drywall in the basement, tiling, furniture builds, and a whole front yard spruce up. Exciting to see these projects get their day and more time for enjoying the house and family we built it for. Have a great holiday, end of year, and I’ll see you in 2022!
