House Leveling up- January 2019

House Leveling up- January 2019

I was talking about how the house project reaches a certain level and it’s almost like leveling up when playing a game. That analogy really stuck with me and I got the idea to mark each month with what we have accomplished and maybe what we hope to get done the next month. The hope is to add to this throughout each month and then post it either at the end of the month or right at the beginning of the next.

I want this to be a regular feature for the readers to know when to expect a blog post, but also because this blog is serving as a sort of journal for our project and I’d hate to forget something just because of the rush and sheer quantity of items that we get done.

Here’s what we accomplished this month (January 2019):

  • Installed drywall on second floor ceiling (12/31/18 but close enough)
  • Fireplace installed
  • Water heater fully installed (gas, hot & cold water lines, venting through chimney chase)
  • Gas line trenched and turned on
  • Furnace installed and RUNNING!
  • Squash blocks installed and nailed in place under load bearing walls
  • Framing done for shower walls and upstairs half-wall in the loft
  • Plumbing drain lines finished
  • Plumbing vent lines 95% finished
  • Water meter installed and water turned on
  • Bathroom supply lines run and one working bathroom activated!

Here’s what we hope to accomplish in February 2019:

  • Install HVAC ductwork
  • Finish plumbing (vents and supply) rough in
  • Foam seal around all penetrations (a lot of cold air comes in)
  • Begin electrical rough in
  • Porch slabs poured (Please?!)
  • Chimney cap installed (so fireplace and water heater can get turned on)

Obviously there will be things we hope to complete in a month that may bleed over or for various reasons cannot be marked complete and may appear on another month’s list.

  1. Great idea to hear about the accomplishments of the build on a monthly basis! We’ll keep stopping in at both places.
