House leveling up- January 2021

This is coming in very late. Almost half way through February. January was a weird month, time-wise. But here I am to again update you on house progress from the previous month. We’re definitely moving at a slower pace, but still trying to finish a few things.

We’ve re-assessed our master list of projects and have them roughly lined out until Spring/Summer 2022. Some are seasonal and some are just improvements we’ve been waiting on/were never a priority. But overall it doesn’t seem too overwhelming and we’re giving ourselves some grace if they slide back on the list. Last month we accomplished:

  • Hanging art/distributing some decor after the holiday decor came down
  • Installed the back up sump pump (powered off city water pressure, we’ll still have pump capabilities even if we lose power) with an alarm
  • Installed all the piping (circled in red in the picture below), electrical, and ports/hoses (they store in the walls!) for the central vac system
  • Hung a few sheets of drywall to accommodate the central vac install in the basement

And that’s about it. At our new speed it feels really nice to have a mix of project work to keep us motivated and relaxing time to balance it out. 2018, 2019, and 2020 were very hard-core focused on completing one project after another. February will be another low project month. It’s a short month and we’re just not killing ourselves to get something crossed off the list.

  1. Finishing projects without the urgency of deadlines is a luxury, you can re-prioritize as the mood hits you. You deserve a chance to enjoy what you have completed and ease into the final items. Perhaps the second half of the year will be more “normal”, now the urge to get out as virus eases will be greater.
