House leveling up- January 2022
New year, new post. Same old late timing. We took December off from house projects and it was FANTASTIC to have some time off. Plenty of things to do with the holidays anyways. The lack of pressure from projects really made the time more relaxing and enjoyable. January started off strong with our intentions and kind of fizzled with our results, but sometimes that’s how it works out. Here’s what we were able to accomplish:
- Organized family pictures and other sentimental items
- Installed and built/stained/poly’d cherry trimwork in closets
- Organized the guest room closet as a craft closet for all my supplies
- Began the project of finishing the drywall in the basement
I know closet trim isn’t exactly brag-worthy, but it meant that the last of the cherry trim was finally installed and off the floor of J’s office. Even then, we still didn’t have enough and J had to buy a few cherry boards and fashion trim pieces to finish the job. I was tasked with staining and polying them. The drywall in the basement wasn’t even on our Jan/Feb list but it was too cold to install it in the breezeway (which IS on the Jan/Feb list). Since it’s already late February when I’m posting this, I feel safe in predicting that it will be a March and beyond project. Overall, it was progress and cleared out some things that needed to be moved/completed 100%
The big work of 2022 will be mostly focused on some outside work. We’re hoping to build our brick yard light in the front yard and add on the front porch roof. I’m also starting to make landscape plans for what I hope will be a multi-year effort to reduce how much grass there is to mow and increase the curb appeal. But obviously all of that is weather dependent and we’re nowhere near starting that work, just thinking and planning.

The good news about outdoor items for Spring, you have plenty of time to plan for those in Illinois. Spring comes a bit later. The outdoor stuff is usually more fun as you get exercise, fresh air and rewards are obvious.
