House leveling up- June 2020

House leveling up- June 2020

Well, progress has slowed to slower than a crawl. Unless you’re a sloth- then you’re pretty on track. I started this post thinking about my upcoming (current when you read this) visit from my in-laws. They have been THE.MOST.SUPPORTIVE during this whole crazy project. But I was thinking, “What have we even accomplished since they were last here (Thanksgiving)?” Well a few things I guess*… But most recently:

  • Celebrated our boy turning EIGHT which included a trip to the drive in movie theater to see Jurassic Park with our friends/honorary aunt/uncle to the kids
  • Continued cleaning up and drying out from our ice maker leak
  • Finished 2.5 months of Zoom school- moving on to 3rd and 6th grade
  • Polyurethane the handrails and newel posts for three sets of stairs
  • Installed the basement handrail
  • Install the door for the master bathroom linen closet and the main door entry
  • Brought magic electric lights that turn on the closet light when you open the door (think like a fridge) to both of those doors
  • Built the pirate bunk bed for Mr B that we saved in the garage for 2 years
  • Final grading and seeding began!

The yard grading and seeding is the new porch slabs. We waited MONTHS for porch slabs. I’ve been hopeful for grading and seeding for I’m not sure how long. They called on 6/24 when I sent them a semi-WTH email. And they said they would begin… weather dependent (rain is forecast)… on… June 30th. So if they do begin it will maybe just squeak in for this month’s house leveling up.

UPDATE: They showed up!!!! On the 30th but finished on the 3rd. We’re counting it for JUNE.

Next month is our one year anniversary in ‘the new house.’ That went lightning fast. I will admit that I still get awed and think, ‘I can’t believe we actually did it’ from time to time. I hope this feeling never gets old.

*I’m really glad I’ve been writing this all down b/c I had totally forgot some pretty major improvements that we have achieved since Thanksgiving. If you want to review (like I totally did): December 2019, January 2020, February 2020, March 2020, April 2020 and May 2020.
