House leveling up- September 2020
This past month brought a sole long weekend of work as we helped long time friends move, prep their old house for sale, and then were gone for a family vacation. But what we managed to accomplish is both beautiful and impressive. Basically we focused on the last large project required for our final inspection. We completed the handrails for the main stairs. We had done the handrail to the basement some months back, but have lived with no handrails for 13 months. But the city says that’s not safe so we put on our perfection hats (the code for stairs is VERY specific) and got to work. We were able to complete the main stairs (one basic handrail and one more complication set up) in just a three day weekend.
- HANDRAILS!!!!
- Leaf gutter guards on garage
- Grew grass and weeds (don’t forget about that!)
As you may have seen, the work on the handrails meant that we could call in the final inspection and we PASSED!!! That means the city is no longer hanging over us. Not that it will change the quality of our work, but it might change the order of projects going forward. For October we’re back on the trim train in the hopes we can finish the last remaining rooms and then we can have the bank do their final sign off. What a relief if we can get that done in time to enjoy the holidays with no projects looming. Back to dreaming and a more casual pace.
We’ll be back after October wraps up and we’ll have a final say on if we got the rest of the trim done. Then what we tackle next is up for debate, but let’s say that October is unlikely to see anything but trim. See you next month!

Those friends appreciate the work! š
Love the rails but I grew to enjoy the beautiful “open concept” stairs!!
