House leveling up- June 2021

House leveling up- June 2021

Mid-month updates are starting to become the norm. Sorry about that. I could have sworn I already wrote June’s update. June was our first full month of summer vacation and we really whoop’d it up. First up was Mr B’s 9th bday and all those festivities. Then went on a camping trip- in a tent! I haven’t done that since I was about Miss K’s age (middle school). I don’t really foresee us becoming a camping family but we’re glad…

House leveling up- May 2021

House leveling up- May 2021

May was a long month (5 weekends!) and we continue to plug away at projects inside and outside. Finally it was warm enough to do various outside and out in the yard type activities. It’s iffy every year if we’ll be rained out or driven in by heat if we have just a few days of pleasant weather. This year was no exception with a little bit of everything weather-wise. We also finished up a full year of remote school…

House leveling up- April 2021

House leveling up- April 2021

I had mentioned in the last monthly update how I couldn’t even remember what we had done the previous month. To save myself some heartache on writing this, I saved all my weekly to-do lists for the month. It was a pretty awesome month, project-wise. The weather is warming up and that is allowing us to start on some outside projects after months of inside work (don’t be fooled though, still plenty to do inside). Here’s what we got done…

House leveling up- March 2021

House leveling up- March 2021

I’ve been avoiding writing this post because I feel like we didn’t do anything in March. Like, really. I even scrolled through my pictures and couldn’t find anything notable or house-worthy to post about. So either I forgot to document progress via pictures or we really didn’t get up to much. We did, however, take a Spring Break trip down south for some warmer weather and a few trips to the beach. That was very much needed. Miss K also…

House leveling up- February 2021

House leveling up- February 2021

Well here’s another month gone and a late house update post. Good thing I’ve never called myself a blogger! We are really embracing the easy does it approach to projects. So this will be a short one folks. Here’s what we got done in the shortest month of the year: Above and below cabinet lighting Planned out a garden (a long-time wish for Mr B) Jim started planning his office desk and built ins Picked up our order of drywall…

House leveling up- January 2021

House leveling up- January 2021

This is coming in very late. Almost half way through February. January was a weird month, time-wise. But here I am to again update you on house progress from the previous month. We’re definitely moving at a slower pace, but still trying to finish a few things. We’ve re-assessed our master list of projects and have them roughly lined out until Spring/Summer 2022. Some are seasonal and some are just improvements we’ve been waiting on/were never a priority. But overall…

The Bottom Line

The Bottom Line

As of December 21, our new home mortgage began. With the city signed off and the bank signed off we are officially no longer living in a construction site. (And to be honest, with the trim done now it very rarely feels like we’re living in a construction site anymore). This has been a major psychological relief for me personally. For most of the last 16 months I’ve had a low grade anxiety that one of the two organizations that…

Video tour- 2nd floor December 2020

Second verse, same as the first. Last week we posted the video tour of the first floor. This week, we’re back with the second floor. A lot has changed since our last video tours (Right after moving in (OMG I cannot believe we lived like that!) and Drywall stage). Coming up soon Jim has promised a full blog post with a complete budget breakdown- so be on the lookout for that. YES! We closed on a traditional mortgage in December…

Video tour- 1st floor December 2020

Video tour- 1st floor December 2020

We won’t have a progress post for December because we decided in November to take this month off. We were both burnt out trying to meet the bank’s (very reasonable) demands and feeling like it would be nice to enjoy the holidays. Also, no guilt for not getting some project or task done- YAY! But never fear loyal readers. We recorded two videos to show the status and progress of the house and what is considered to be a ‘bank…

House leveling up- November 2020

House leveling up- November 2020

November was so busy that I didn’t get around to writing this until early December. Whoa. Can time just… be… different? We did get a few things wrapped up in November and made the decision to take the month of December off for projects. So there will be no December 2020 House leveling up post- but I do have some interesting posts to share to make up for it. This is what we got done the last project month of…
