Projects for year 2

Projects for year 2

We’re always posting about all the projects we’ve gotten done so I know it can seem like we must be almost done. Not quite. We moved into our dream home looking less like anything ready for a magazine photoshoot. Unless they were there for the pre-reveal ‘how-will-they-pull-this-off?’ moment. And we’re still not ready to say it’s “Done” (can we all just agree that when you read this you’ll hear ‘Ding’ in your head?) going into our second year of living in a slowly progressing less-than-a-construction zone home. What WILL constitute “Done” you ask? I don’t know exactly, but I know we have a fair few obvious things on the list. Some things will be fun and definitely down-the-road type projects but there are plenty that are still looming out there before I can feel comfortable saying ‘We’re done’.

I’ll share our ongoing project list with you along with my thoughts on the likelihood of them being done before ‘Done’. And I’ll share a few pictures of what this un-done life looks like. Some of these things are eh, some are OMG, and some are things that I might be the only person to notice.

  1. Doors (Yup, these will need to be done)
    • 1st Floor linen closet
    • Kids’ closets (3)
    • Master bath
  2. Handrails: (This is one of the few outstanding building permit requirements)
  3. Window film (This is also a permit requirement that I wish we didn’t have to do)
  4. Install back up sump pump (I want this done b/c every time we have a storm I freak out)
  5. Closet shelves/organization (NOPE)
    • Guest
  6. Half wall caps: (This would be nice and is some of the last ‘construction-y looking’ spaces)
    • Front door- stone to match hearth?
    • Stairs- cherry
    • Loft- painted or stained wood
  7. Drywall touch ups (um, maybe?)
  8. Paint: (eh)
    • Laundry
    • Closet shelves
    • Touch ups
    • Ceilings
  9. Register covers (I don’t even see these anymore so I’m guessing this is a NOPE)
  10. Basic trim (doors, windows, baseboards) (UH YES!)
  11. Advanced trim (crown moulding, etc) (nah)
  12. Cabinet handles/pulls (okay this is such a quality of life improvement that for that reason alone- YES!!)
  13. Range hood (Yes)
  14. Range hood cover (also yes)
  15. Under / over cabinet lighting (probably not)
  16. Cabinet lazy susans (this would be such a quality of life improvement, but I’m going to say no, sadly)
  17. Backsplash (nope)
  18. Mantle (ugh, yes, I want this so bad- in time for Xmas?)
  19. Tile fireplace surround (yes)
  20. Built in bookcases
    • Fireplace (yes)
    • Loft (no)
  21. Window seat:
    • K’s Room (yes)
    • Stairwell (but no)
  22. Insulate
    • Breezeway (yes)
    • Garage attic (yes)
    • Basement walls (no)
  23. Drywall install
    • Breezeway (yes)
    • Basement walls (no)
  24. Cover balcony beam (yes)
  25. Trim exterior doors (yes)
  26. Finish vinyl siding- West side (yes- yes we still have one piece of siding missing at the tippy tippy top)
  27. Build front porch (yes)
  28. Front yard light (no)
  29. Columns for balcony (no, this is def on J’s list though)
  30. Screen in back porch (yes)
  31. Caulk breezeway and back door siding (yes)
  32. Central Vac install (yes, please soon!)
  33. Cat cubby rails (no)
  34. Cat cubby door (no, I wonder if this will never happen)
  35. ERV (no, unless permitting requires it)

So you see we’ll be around for monthly updates ad nauseam and continued projects until Miss K is graduating High School. And of course, this is my list. Jim’s list could look very different and in fact as we’ve discussed next projects we both have different things in mind (take a look back at his thoughts at the end of March (an interesting time at the BEGINNING of the pandemic)). I’m looking at fall approaching and again looking at what do we need to prioritize before the weather goes south. Each little completed thing still makes me giddy and even more pleased with our house. It has definitely been a ‘home’ for much longer, but looking more and more complete with each passing week.

And now for the fun part. A little look-see at the ugly and/or undone.

  1. It is amazing all of the stuff you have completed and still have a sizeable “punch list”. Hope fully you can finish outdoor items soon and then just work your way around priority items indoors. Perhaps we can help with cabinet door handles etc when we we come out in November. See you soon!
