Still moving- out and onward
Yes, it’s been over a month in the new rental house. Yes, we’re still moving stuff out of the old house. My mom said pretty aptly that we have a lot of stuff for people who think they are minimalists. We also lost two weekends to an out-of-town funeral and a year-in-the-making girls weekend. So that has slowed our roll.
But we are making progress clearing out the house. Today we moved the last of the tools and the massive workbench Jim has from his basement workshop into the garage. We also got the last of the appliances out of the house. All that’s left is the furnace and the water heater. Then we’re hoping they’ll come and disconnect the gas and electric (simultaneously transferring that to the garage). The water is already scheduled to be shut off on Tuesday May 15th.
We have a small list of things to remove and store, but mostly we’re just eager to get all the disconnects scheduled so we can tell the demo crew to start.
I’ve started researching how to record or live-stream the demolition. I’m thinking I might ask our neighbor if I can use their WiFi for a day so that opens up some options. I’ll give the blog readers a quick heads up on what to look for once I’ve figured it out. I’m leaning toward FB live or YouTube. Decisions, decisions. Any suggestions?
One part of project work (not more moving of our endless crap) that has progressed is siding. We took a day off work to get some siding done as the temps finally cooperated by staying above 50 for several hours (a requirement for painting the cut ends of our fiber cement siding). We got enough done to mount the meter box and passed our electrical inspection! Thanks Electric Frank for all the advice and suggestions!
Again, blogging is hard when you’re busy and as dog tired as we are (I’ve logged 15K or more steps every weekend day we’re over there working). But I am trying to post pictures on our Instagram on a semi-regular basis. So head over there or follow us for up-to-the-minute updates. But here’s one for the non-Instagram crowd:
What do you think? This was just before we passed inspection. Do you think I should paint the meter box white to match the siding? I’ve never done that before but am now wondering how hard it is…
